A4ld Torque Converter Installation
Hi I own an old beat up 90 for ranger short bed automatic, Reason why I'm at this point is because one day the truck stopped moving, so I bought a new toque converter. I put the TC into the transmission and it bottoms out in the bell housing. I try and bolt it up and it locks the engine up.

Pull the trans away the engine turns freely. My dad and I measured the bellhousing and it looks like we have 1 7/16' of clearance. This truck has been a pain in the ass. Is the torque converter the wrong one for this application and did autozone give me the wrong one? Thanks for any help!
Sounds like a miss stabbed converter.when you put the converter in the transmission you must be sure it is in all the way or pump damage will occur. When you put the converter in you must spin it until it goes all the way in,in some insistences the converter may rub the backside of bellhousing somewhat and that says its in tranny all the way.also you will not be able to get your finger between converter and tranny. Once you think you have it all the way in and you put trans up to motor and put 2 bolts in there should be play between flywheel and converter. I had a similar thing happen to me on a '90 Bronco II that I was replacing the motor in. I tightened 1 nut on the torque converter and the engine would bind while trying to turn it over to put the next nut on. It had me stumped. I found it was best to thread the first nut on ( do not tighten ) Then move on to the next one and install the nut and then start tightening, moving on to the next, until you get back to the first one.

Ok, have a '91 with A4LD and replacing the trans. But, can't get the torque converter to seat properly so trans won't bolt up. Got a question. There is a short small shaft that goes into the middle of the main shaft on the trans side. It's about a foot long and has splines on both ends. When I removed the. ( I separated the motor/tranny twice thinking the t/conv wasn't seated) I guess these torque converters have very little clearance in their housings? Just my.02.I normally play with standard transmissions.
I was however able to continue using the laptop until the battery lost all of its charge. This last time, there was a bunch of damp, white smoke pouring out of the charging jack (while still plugged in) the charger shorted out, I unplugged everything but it hasnt worked again. No battery is detected vista hp laptop.
This is a short compressed clip taken from my copyrighted video, Swapping a 5.0L into a Fox Body Ford vol. Very often I find people asking about the proper way to set the depth and position of a torque converter so the tranny can be bolted to the engine correctly. If not done right, the pump and/or converter can easily be damaged. It's very simple to do it right.

This clip shows me installing an AOD to a 5.0L however the same method is used on most other Ford rear drive transmissions. If you interested in this full length DVD or download or any of the BadShoe Productions videos, just go to my web site for info, www.badshoeproductions.com.
